COVID-19 at-Home Financial Education

Dear Supporters and Bite of Reality Users,

We’re working in unprecedented times, and the ways we provide financial education to youth must take that into consideration. With schools closed, and credit unions focusing on delivering needed financial services to their members, it’s obvious that in-person Bite of Reality events are on hold. We are working on potential alternatives for our signature program and will keep you informed as we go along.

In the meantime, we believe parents are looking for ways to supplement the schoolwork their children of all ages are being provided by their schools. We would suggest you consider Biz Kid$. The National Credit Union Foundation has plenty of resources, and we’re summarizing them here. You can simply place the following links on your website, or send out in social media posts or other member communications. We’re sure your members will appreciate you providing them with an entertaining and educational activity to keep their kids engaged and entertained – while also teaching them a thing or two.

Biz Kid$ airs daily on PBS stations across California and Nevada. You can click on this link to enter your zip code and let your members know where the show is airing in your community(ies). Just scroll to the bottom of the page and click on “show times.” And, anyone with an Amazon Prime membership can stream the first three seasons of the show on their television or device at no extra charge.

Anyone can access the Biz Kid$ website for free resources and the lesson plans that have been developed for each episode. The attached PDF is a list of all the episodes broken down into thematic blocks.  This is helpful for suggesting specific topics to parents – and also for future reference once you have an opportunity to go back into classrooms. Additionally, you can access a list of all episodes by season with a brief description:  List of Biz Kid$ Episodes

We know you have your hands full with meeting the immediate needs of your members, but if you’re also looking to provide some financial education resources, we hope you’ll consider this information.

Please let us know if we can help in any way.

Best regards,

Tena and Jenn
